The Chicken or the Egg?

First came the chicken, and then the egg.  Well, that is the case for me, Dana Koenig, the owner of The Coveted Coop.  She moved in to a home that came complete with 4 chickens that the owner left with her.  Then soon after she collected her first egg.

The Coveted Coop was hatched when a good friend gave me a beautiful ceramic candle holder as a birthday gift.  It was a tall glazed chicken with little holes, but she was beautiful - classy and tasteful.

Everyone who knows me, knows that I am crazy over my chickens!  My parents gave me a pair of beautiful white hand-painted metal chickens -  a hen and a rooster - that are maybe meant for the garden but they sit upon my kitchen table and were the centerpiece for my holiday table.

My mother and father in law, knowing me so well, gave me a huge, colorful, lawn ornament rooster.  He is spectacular.  Too good for the garden - so he lives on a table in our hearth room.

Then came a set of three antique dishes with lids, each a different chicken as the lid, and a nest for the dish.  Then a distressed metal cutout from a friend, a pretty egg carton ornament from another and a fantastic Chicken Crossing sign from my sister!  She also gave me a wooden chicken weather vane, and my other sister, a pair of really rich lovely pajamas with an elegant chicken motif.  One of my favorite tops is a cute tee that one sister gave me with four little chickens in a row across the front but the tee itself is cute, the shape, the fabric...My niece gave me a pair of brass quails (I am fond of all manner of fowl) and a handsome hand painted rooster pillow.  The sweet and elegant gestures continue!

So I thought to myself, where are my dear friends and family finding these upscale, lovely, tasteful chicken things!? 

All I ever see online are mass produced, predictable or funny things.  I wish I could find a place that sold such pretty and special things as my loved ones have given me, but I couldn't, so it inspired me to put forth a collection of things that I would want given to me.  I hope you enjoy shopping either for yourself if you are a fellow chicken-nut, or for a friend who is all about their flock!  Even peacock and quail lovers will find something here.  Soon we will add ducks and others to the assortment, because all of us chicken lovers know, it is a slippery slope once you have a few chickens!
